What a HACCP certificate of an automated wash cycle looks like

5 min readHB Nexus

The HB Nexus wash head cleans the inside of a trailer

An auditor rarely asks whether you clean. They ask whether you can show that it happened: to which vehicle, when, with which programme and for how long. With manual washing the answer is a logbook. With the HB Nexus the answer is a certificate the machine creates itself. Below is what it contains, field by field, and what each field means for an audit.

Which fields are on the certificate?

The certificate has five fields. They come straight from the machine and from Nuvix; nothing is filled in by hand. As an example we take the certificate of wash cycle #2041, as it also appears on this site.

FieldExampleWhat it records
Wash cycle number#2041Unique number per wash cycle, so one registration can be found again
Licence plateNL-04-XTLinks the wash cycle to a vehicle instead of to a date alone
ProgrammeFull HACCPWhich wash programme ran, and therefore which cleaning was applied
Duration14:32 minHow long the cycle actually ran
CertificateRegisteredWhether the wash cycle was fully completed and recorded

Why does every wash cycle have its own number?

The wash cycle number answers the question an auditor asks first: which wash cycle exactly do you mean? A logbook has a date and perhaps a time. With a unique number you refer to one cycle, with one vehicle, one programme and one duration. That makes a discussion about which line in the logbook belongs to which trip unnecessary.

What does the licence plate on the certificate prove?

The licence plate links the cleaning to a vehicle. That seems obvious, but with manual washing it is precisely the field that is most often missing or wrongly noted. For a client in food or pharma it is the core of the question: was this trailer, the one carrying its load tomorrow, cleaned today? With the licence plate on the certificate that is a search query instead of a reconstruction.

Why is the wash programme on it?

Not every load asks for the same cleaning. The Nexus has programmes per type of load, from food residues to chemical residues. The programme on the certificate records which cleaning was applied, with which dosing and which contact time, because the dosing system keeps that exactly the same per programme. An auditor therefore sees not only that washing took place, but also how.

What does the actual duration of the cycle say?

The duration is the time the machine really ran, not the time someone estimates afterwards. In the example that is 14 minutes and 32 seconds for a full HACCP wash cycle; the maximum is 15 minutes. A cycle that was aborted or shortened stands out immediately. That is the difference between a registration and evidence.

What does the status Registered mean?

The status tells whether the wash cycle was fully completed and recorded in Nuvix. The certificate is created the moment the cycle is finished, without any action by the driver or an employee. So there is no moment at which someone can forget to fill it in, and no moment at which it can be completed afterwards.

Why does this make an audit shorter?

An audit costs time the moment someone has to look for something. All certificates are in the Nuvix customer portal and can be searched per vehicle and per date. If an auditor asks about a licence plate over a certain period, that is a filter and an export. No folder has to be opened, no colleague who was on shift has to be called.

The second difference is reliability. A registration the machine creates itself at the moment of the wash cycle does not depend on who was working and cannot be updated later. That is a different kind of evidence than a logbook, and auditors know it.

How clean is the cargo space after the wash cycle?

The certificate records that and how washing took place. How clean the result is was measured separately: CCD Cleaning Consultancy tested independently in November 2024 and found 63 percent less microbial load after an HB Nexus wash cycle. The full report is available on request. Together those two form the story for an auditor: this was done, and this is the effect.

On the HACCP certificate page the sample certificate sits next to the explanation per field, and you can read how Nuvix keeps the certificates.

Frequently asked questions

About this topic

When is the certificate created?

Automatically, the moment the wash cycle is completed. No action by the driver or an employee is needed.

Can I find certificates of earlier wash cycles?

Yes. All certificates are in the Nuvix customer portal and can be searched per vehicle and per date.

Is the certificate valid for my certification scheme?

The certificate registers the wash cycle: vehicle, programme, duration and status. Whether that is sufficient for your scheme is decided by your auditor. We make no statements about that.

Can a certificate be changed afterwards?

No. It is created by the machine at the moment of the wash cycle and then stored in Nuvix. There is no manual entry that can be updated later.
