What is the truck wash equipment cost for interior cleaning? The cost model without a price list

Anyone searching for the truck wash equipment cost finds two kinds of answers: price lists of truck washes, and build-cost guides for a complete wash bay. For the inside of a trailer there is a third route: a wash unit in a container on your own yard. It carries no price. The cost model is simple, and the question that matters is from how many washes per day your own equipment beats what you do now.

What does truck wash equipment cost: do you pay per wash or buy your own system?

Truck wash equipment costs you per wash as long as you drive to a truck wash, and a fixed amount per year once a unit stands on your own yard. The rate per wash differs per truck wash, programme and type of load, and the more often you wash, the more it weighs. The gantry wash does the outside; the HB Nexus is the system for the inside, built into a 40ft ISO container. What sits inside that container is on the page about the robot.

The difference lies in the shape of the cost, more than in its size. Paying per wash is predictable, but you also pay the driving time to the wash and the waiting time there. Your own system turns that sum around: the fixed annual amount runs on, and every extra wash costs only water, chemicals and energy.

What does a trailer washout system cost per year in fixed costs?

A trailer washout system costs a fixed amount per year for the machine plus the service agreement with HB Group. There is no price list for that amount, because the HB Nexus is set up per location: the container is plug and play and modular, but the connection values, consumption and placement differ per yard. The service agreement covers monthly maintenance, remote monitoring via wifi and automatic software updates.

What is not in the fixed costs: an operator. The driver couples up and the machine does the rest, so nobody stands at the wash site whose hours you must count. For a transport company that employs a washer, or a truck wash that rosters one, that is the item that makes the difference. What a manual wash costs today, we worked out earlier in our article on the cost of manual trailer cleaning.

What does one wash in your own wash unit cost?

One wash in your own wash unit costs water, chemicals and energy, and nothing else. That is the marginal cost: the amount you pay only when a trailer is in the machine. Because the dosing system holds the same amount of chemicals and the same contact time every cycle, that amount is identical for every wash on the same programme. With manual work, consumption depends on who is holding the lance.

The HB Nexus uses 50 percent less water per wash than manual washing. How many litres that is in your situation is stated per location; we deliberately give no figure you would not see on your own meter. Every cycle also produces a HACCP certificate automatically via Nuvix, so proof of the wash is no separate action and no separate cost item.

At how many washes per day does an interior wash investment beat outsourcing or manual work?

Around six vehicles per day, if you calculate with 60 euros per wash and six wash days per week. That is the break-even point from our ROI calculator: where the fixed annual amount, divided by the number of washes, plus the cost per wash equals what those washes cost you now. Below that number you pay more per wash than now; above it less, and every extra trailer widens the gap.

Six a day is modest for a truck wash with passing trade: one unit handles four washes per hour, day and night, up to around 33,000 per year. For a transport company with its own fleet, the question is whether its own trailers reach that number, or whether you also wash for third parties. How a truck wash adds interior cleaning as a service is covered in our article on adding interior cleaning to a truck wash.

Which factors change the cost of truck wash equipment?

Four factors decide whether the break-even point of truck wash equipment sits higher or lower in your case: the number of washes, the rate per wash, the labour saved and the claims avoided. The first two are in the sum. The last two sit behind it and are often forgotten when comparing quotes.

  • Volume: more washes per day spread the fixed annual amount over more cycles and lower the average cost.
  • Rate per wash: if you pay more or less today than the 60 euros in the example, the break-even point moves with it.
  • Labour saved: the hours of a washer who no longer enters the cargo space, and the effort of finding those people.
  • Claims and accidents avoided: no more wet, slippery, chemical workplace, and an identical result per wash instead of one that varies per shift.

That last factor is hard to put into euros. It has been measured, though: in the independent test by CCD Cleaning Consultancy in November 2024, the microbial load after a Nexus wash cycle was 63 percent lower and the result 33 percent cleaner than manual washing. A food or pharma customer who receives that proof with every wash stays a customer. That is a number too, it just does not appear on a quote.

How do you run the numbers for your own wash unit?

With your own figures in the ROI calculator on hbnexus.com, in three steps. The calculator works with six wash days per week and sets the fixed annual amount and the cost per wash against what you spend per wash now. You do not need a quote in hand for that: the model works with your own volume and your own rate.

  1. Count the interior washes per day you carry out or have carried out.
  2. Enter what you currently pay or charge per wash, including the washer's hours.
  3. Read off your break-even point and the difference per year at your current volume.

The result is an indication based on your own figures, not a quote. If you want the fixed annual amount for your location, HB Group draws that up after a conversation about your yard and your volume. The quickest route is to book a demo: you watch the machine run a full cycle and then receive figures for your situation.

Frequently asked questions

About this topic

How much does truck wash equipment for interior cleaning cost?

The price of the HB Nexus is on request, because the placement, connection values and consumption differ per location. The cost model is fixed, though: an annual amount for the machine plus a marginal cost per wash for water, chemicals and energy. With the ROI calculator on hbnexus.com you can see, using your own figures, where the break-even point against outsourcing or manual washing sits.

How much does a trailer washout cost per wash?

At a truck wash the rate per wash depends on the location, the programme and the type of load; a washout with a certificate is a programme of its own. In your own wash unit the cost per wash is water, chemicals and energy plus your share of the fixed annual amount. The ROI calculator on hbnexus.com uses 60 euros per wash as an example rate; enter your own.

How is the machine maintained?

Through a service agreement with HB Group: monthly maintenance, remote monitoring via wifi and automatic software updates. Faults can be read remotely. That agreement belongs to the fixed costs per year, so you do not need a separate reserve for maintenance, and an engineer already knows what is going on before arriving at your yard.

Is an interior wash system worth the investment for a small fleet?

That depends on the number of interior washes per day, not on the number of tractors. If your own fleet reaches around six washes per day at 60 euros per wash, you are at the break-even point. If you fall short, you can sell washes to third parties; Nuvix plans, registers and invoices them per wash, with a HACCP certificate for every customer.
